Company

Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Kopalń PeBeKa S.A. (Mine Construction Company PeBeKa S.A.) from Lubin is among the leading firms in the Polish building industry. The firm started with the discovery of deposits and opening of the new Copper Industrial Area. In the early stages of its development the company focused only on sinking shafts and their equipment at the newly started mines, in time widening its offer with horizontal development and the construction of buildings, creating a full infrastructure of mining facilities.

Today the company, using experiences gained during several decades of construction of all the shafts in the Copper Industrial Area, provides services not only for mining, but also for transport, industry and environmental protection. PeBeKa owns a machine park and uses unique technologies, it has production capabilities allowing for comprehensive realization of contracts – from conceptual work to full investment closure.

 The company's greatest achievements are:

  • construction of the modern mine complex for the leading world copper producer, KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. (in the LGOM area PeBeKa sank 29 shafts 27 kilometers deep in total and built over 1000 kilometers of underground galleries),
  • building, renovation and modernization of transmission pipes in the sewage and hydrotransport system for the Hydrotechnical Plant, part of the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. as well as the engineering works for maintenance and expansion of the “Żelazny Most” postflotation waste reservoir, the biggest tailing dumping place in Europe,
  • construction of Warsaw metro structures,
  • export projects in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South Americas, including shaft (Germany, Honduras, Chile, Philippines) tunnel (Algeria, Turkey, Israel, Hongkong) and mining contracts (Germany, Hungary, Italy, Iran),
  • renovation of the historic Wieliczka Salt Mine structures,
  • realization of numerous construction investments (general and specialist) including underground galleries, reinforcements and ground stabilizations, habitable structures in Polkowice, Warsaw, Wieliczka and beyond.

For over 20 years the company has been involved in the Warsaw metro project. PeBeKa has executed more than 7 kilometers of track tunnels, built the Politechnika metro station, and the 100 meter long underground passage under Trasa Łazienkowska among other developments. In October 2008 the Młociny transportation hub has been opened, currently the largest investment of its kind in Poland. It includes local and suburban bus station, tram station, 4-floor car park and a modern building with enough space to guarantee an uninterrupted flow of passengers to the underground metro station. In many of the projects PeBeKa uses the world-widely unique technology of rock mass freezing. It is mainly thanks to it, that the copper mines in the Lower Silesia were built, where quaternary and tertiary loose sands are unsuitable for mining works. The freezing technology lets the workers avoid the most serious danger, that is the underground waters breaking into the shaft.

The company has been awarded quality certificates, reliable employer awards as well as high ranking positions in country-wide, local and industry magazines. PeBeKa was awarded the Limbur 2002 distinction for relining 1100 m of pipeline in one segment of pipeline transporting waste from copper ore processing to the “Żelazny Most” reservoir and two prestigious awards for works on the Warsaw metro: Tytan 2007 in the “Company of the year – underground constructions” category for tunnel works on the Bielany section and the Golden Drill 2009 in “Public service buildings” for the A-23 Młociny metro station.

PeBeKa’s greatest asset and capital are its employees. The company keeps around 1,650 highly qualified and experienced specialists, and they are given numerous opportunities to raise their qualifications and expand their knowledge. For the young and ambitious students with profiles connected to the company’s field, internship, practice and, in the long term, employment opportunities have been created. Thanks to the scholarship program, that has currently been running for 10 years, many graduates of technical universities found employment in the company.

The PeBeKa S.A. company operates as part of the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. capital group, one of the largest Polish companies, the sixth producer of copper in the world. The companies are linked not only with ownership ties, but also with years of economic collaboration, the tight connection of the ore mining and copper production process.
