Krakow Transport Center – Fast Tram infrastructure

Client: City Development Agency in Krakow

    Material extent of works:

    • tram tunnel execution 170 m long and 46 m² cross section (including slotted walls 2,600 46 m² of surface in total, ferroconcrete elements 2,900 m³ in total volume as well as 1,400 m² of shotcrete on the walls),
    • dig execution in suspension technology 8,000 m³ in total volume,
    • execution of structure isolation and dilatation,
    • execution of large-diameter pillars in settling pipes, ø 1,200 mm, 280 m in total length,
    • execution of large-diameter pillars in settling pipes, ø 1,500 mm, 320 m in total length,
    • dynamic-method pillar burdening.

In the years 2006-2008 PeBeKa has, as part of a consortium with Budimex Dromex S.A., realized an infrastructure project for the fast tram city line in the area of Mogilski Roundabout, one of the most important transport junctions in Krakow. The company has produced a tram tunnel 170 m long and 46 m² in diameter. The consortium has also built two viaducts for underground pedestrian passages. As part of the project, company workers erected large-diameter pillars 280 meters long in total and 1.5 meters in diameter as viaduct support, as well as four pillars 1.2 meters in diameter as part of the underground passage construction. Endurance of all groundwork pillars was verified with the dynamic method, using a heavy weight dropped on the pillar and equipment measuring the dispersion of forces in the structure. Load capacity tests confirmed the highest quality of works done by PeBeKa. It was also appreciated by the jury of the TYTANY 2009 awards, granting the company a nomination for this prestigious award in the “Bridge building” category.
