Underground

The experiences gained by PeBeKa in the course of many NATM methods bridge projects and the mining experience in underground construction at the LGOM has mobilized the company to strive to be a part of the metro constructions and accompanying projects.

Participation in the Warsaw metro constructions was a great technical and technological challenge for the firm. Taking part in this investment started in 1987. For a long time the General Metro Construction Directorate could not find a contractor willing to take on the realization of track tunnel passage under the Łazienkowska Street. The shield tunneling technology proposed by PeBeKa for the track tunnels eliminated the threat to hold up traffic on the main transport artery in the east-west line for at least two years.

In the years 1988-2008 the company, as a consortium member, has executed seven east track tunnels between Politechnika and Marymont stations, 5400 meters in total length, also realized were part of the B20 tunnel and A20 “Słodowiec” station. The realization of “Politechnika” station was a spectacular construction with PeBeKa as a main contractor.

The last venture was the construction of the transportation hub at Młociny, presently the largest transport investment of its type. As part of this task a two-track tunnel, almost 700 m long was created, along with A23 station 145 m long, sidetracks – a three-bay tunnel 295 meters long and the Młociny transportation junction 295 m wide. Apart from the Warsaw metro construction, PeBeKa, in the years 1988-1993, has carried out a contract as part of stage I metro construction in Alger. Works extent included two stations and three track tunnel sections 1.3 km in total length. The contract obligated the company to carry out the necessary research as well as trainings and supervision for the Algerian crews on all workstations.
