Mine Construction Company PeBeKa S.A. with its seat in Lubin is preparing itself for the main celebrations of the 50th anniversary. A jubilee scientific conference will take place on 23rd April, which will be accompanied with pictures and documents exhibition illustrating company’s achievements. A premiere of jubilee publication “We draw on the tradition, we set for the future” is also being planned.

Watershed dates are getting closer, when 50 years ago PeBeKa was becoming fact and the Copper Basin existing only in heads of decision makers and designers were becoming a reality. On 27th April 1960 Minister of Heavy Industries signed directive No.70 on a change of name, seat and objects of a state enterprise called Ore Mine Constriction Company in Bolesławiec. This gave the formal basis for setting Copper Ore Mine Construction Company (PBKRM) in Lubin, which runs today by the name of PeBeKa.

On 1st July 1960 PBKRM was called the main contractor for mining works in planned Legnicki and Głogowski Copper District. Construction of the New Basin the Company started from sinking L-III shaft located in the area of “Lubin Wschodni”. On 15th July the first hoisting machine for pilot shaft was installed and on 19th November the first bucket of the winning was hoisted by the team of Copper Basin’s pioneers.

    - It should be emphasized that during the whole sinking process of the shaft in such difficult pioneering works the team was characterized by a great size of the fight, great consistency in daily work and they were motivated  to reach the copper ore deposit as soon as possible, they were also curious about the deposit appearance and confirmation of geologists’ conjectures and results – recollects Jan Ulrich, the first site engineer of L-III shaft.

In jubilee year PeBeKa focused on documenting company’s achievements and reconstructing historic realities accompanied while constructing Copper Basin. – PeBeKa’s part in constructing Copper Basin is a significant element of Polish industry’s history and development of engineering thoughts. Unfortunately, fifty-year perspective has got its own rights. Not all pioneers are still among us, that’s why we hold it in reverence to find the greatest amount of people connected with history of our company and to write down their memories – says Jacek Kulicki the president of PeBeKa.

Apart from comprehensive calendar and description of company’s achievements, the direct accounts of the persons connected with the enterprise on different stages of its history are being written in chronicle of the 50th anniversary of PeBeKa prepared by special make-up editors.

    - That’s unique stories concerning the struggle with the nature emphasizing significance of joined forces and working in a team shows the history of PeBeKa from individual perspective. However, thanks to this human perspective the most important values of our company are still emphasized – reliability, innovation of solutions and the courage in its applying – emphasizes the president Kulicki.

The premiere of this special publication is planned to be in the end of April during the jubilee scientific conference. The symposium is dedicated to substantiate a half century history of the company. The papers were prepared by present employees of the company, but their principles are summarizing engineering achievements from the beginning. The subjects of the papers will concern shaft sinking technologies, Warsaw underground construction and tunnelling works done all over the world. The conference will take place on 23rd April in Jan Wyżykowski Room in registered office of the Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. and will be held under the patronage of AGH University of Science and Technology from Krakow and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

The conference will be accompanied by two theme exhibitions connected with the history of PeBeKa, the one will appear in Lubin streets, and the other one will be presented for participants of jubilee conference at the entrance to Jan Wyżykowski Room.
