19 years old Wioletta Łuc, pupil at the Special School Complex in Lubin, is the author of the Easter card design in a competition organized by the PeBeKa S.A. Mine Building Company. Her optimistic picture: Easter eggs and ducklings on green grass has captivated the jury. 80 pupils took part in the contest.
- Each and every one of these cards is a work of art – says Ryszard Janeczek, president of PeBeKa company. – I hope that thanks to actions like these we can show off the great talent dormant in these children as well as their potential. And there is no need to mention their big hearts. That is clearly visible in every work.
The Special School Complex in Lubin is a facility for mentally handicapped children and youths. Apart from the compulsory activities, all pupils take part in support activities that help improve for their faulty psychophysical functions, compensate and correct deviations, and, as much as possible, aim to overcome the underlying causes and symptoms that hinder normal development and learning.
It is the second time that PeBeKa has organized a holiday card contest for the pupils of SSC. The first edition was held just before Christmas. The sheer number (over 100), diversity and artistic qualities of the works submitted at that time gave the jury a hard time to choose the winner. It was the same this time. 77 pupils produced the works, using various techniques: drawings, collage, cut-outs, all decorated with sequins, glitter and rhinestones.
- We would like the competitions organized for Special School Complex pupils to become a tradition in our company. I think that they are a source of joy for everyone – for us as well as the kids. It is truly amazing, how eagerly they immerse themselves in their work and how much care they give the works. On top of that the pieces emanate so much warmth and optimism, that it is hard to pick one. If I could, I would have given them all first place – says Agnieszka Kubica-Radek, chairperson of the jury.
In conclusion, the jury rewarded 6 persons:
Wioletta Łuc (19 years old) took 1st place,
Magdalena Mazurek (13), Krystian Słabicki (13) and Łukasz Motyl (15) took 2nd place ex aequo,
Dominika Olczyk (8) and Damian Snopkiewicz (10) took 3rd place ex aequo.
Each participant will receive a gift before Easter – the laureates and other pupils of SSC alike. The winning design, however, has been printed in a professional printing-house and, before Easter, 1500 copies will go to affiliated institutions, firms, partners and clients of the company. Part of the edition will, as part of voluntary work by PeBeKa employees, be distributed, part was given to the school and the “Equal Chances” Disabled Persons’ Friends and Families Association from Lubin, that will sell them. The entire income will be given to the Special School Complex in Lubin.
