The PeBeKa S.A. Mine Building Company from Lubin, a firm with nearly 50 years of tradition, will soon be able to boast about its achievements at the traveling session of the World Mining Congress, that will take place on September 10th in Lubin. The congress itself takes place in Kraków and Katowice, back in Poland after fifty years.
And PeBeKa S.A. has a great deal to boast about: it is one of the largest construction firms in Poland, with nearly 50 years of experiences, from its very beginning tied to mining and the Copper Industrial Area. In its beginnings PeBeKa S.A. has dug and reinforced mine shafts; in time it has expanded its activities with the completion of comprehensive mine facility infrastructure, including pitheads and elevators for extracting and transporting ore.
Company employees were the first to reach copper ore deposits, dug successive shafts and expanded the workings network. Total depth of all shafts realized by the firm reaches 27 kilometers, and the R-IX shaft built for Rudna mine was, at the time of its execution, the deepest structure in Europe. The company’s achievements in horizontal mine works are equally impressive. The total length of underground galleries dug by PeBeKa is 1000 kilometers, roughly the distance from Wrocław to Brussels or from Gdańska to Vienna! A modern mine complex for the world copper producer, KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., was created this way.
Even today the company specializes in mining constructions: it builds underground and surface structures, offers a full range of services – beginning with design works and ending with investment completion. It uses a world-widely unique rock formation freezing technology. It is mainly thanks to it that the copper mines of Lower Silesia were even built. The area’s Tertiary and Quaternary loose sands along with ground waters are inhospitable for mining works. Ground freezing helps avoid the most serious danger for the shaft – underground water leaks. The ground, frozen with saline under minus 30 degrees Celsius, makes for proper isolation from ground waters.
During the exhibition that will be displayed as part of the XXIst World Mining Congress at the KGHM office in Lubin on September 10th, PeBeKa S.A. will document its history and achievements. From the first shaft for “Lubin” Mining Facility, built in 1963, to the first batch of ore extracted from the SW-4 shaft in Łagoszowo Małe near Głogów, open in June this year. From the pickaxe to the specialized rock-freezing combine.
- PeBeKa has worked on many continents, realizing tunnel and underground works. Our specialists are constantly honing their skills, gain knowledge, familiarize themselves with cutting-edge engineering technologies and put them to use – says Ryszard Janeczek, president of PeBeKa S.A. Mine Building Company.
KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. acts as host for the Lubin meeting of congress attendees. During the “Ore mining – trends and challenges” session, debaters will discuss the current state and perspectives for ore mining development in Poland an around the world. Latest technical and technological solutions, that increase ore exploitation efficiency, will be presented. After the popular science session and tours of KGHM mines, the traditional mine picnic will be held, with skin-jumping, minting occasional coins and Copper Industrial Area rescuers’ skill presentation.
